What's Good, Tacoma - 2/25
What to do when the sun's out, planning ahead for spring, indoor fun for a rainy day, how to get moss off your roof, and more.
Happy Tuesday, Tacoma. You know the drill – grab your coffee (or whatever you sip in the morning), kick back, and let The Tacoma Brief serve up this week’s What’s Good Edition featuring five things that’ll help you live better, stay ahead, stress less, and enjoy more ☕️
Let’s get to it!
🌞 Near-60 degree days ahead — hopefully
We’ll be unseasonably warm and partly sunny the later half of this week (unless something changes), making it the perfect time to explore Point Defiance Park.
They’re hosting a work party on Saturday, but you can also just enjoy it just as much any other day — check out chutes and ladders in real life, hit up Five Mile Drive for a moderate family-friendly hike through the woods, hit up the off-leash dog park, or wander the gardens at no cost. The zoo is also open, but it’s not free.
Whether you’re bringing the kids or just yourself, I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the break in the weather →
🌹 It’s rose time (the flower, not the wine)
From reds and whites to yellows, purples, pinks, and oranges, Watson’s Greenhouse has a huge selection of roses you can order online for delivery/curbside pickup or buy in store.
If you’re a rose fan, it’s the perfect time to shop the largest selection, plan your garden, and do something fun after work if gardening is your jam →
They’re also offering two free seminars on Saturday (the 1st) — They’re both at the same time (11 am) but different locations. ABCs of Roses is going down at the Puyallup/Tacoma location and an expert beekeeper will be talking all about Mason Bees in their new Olympia location →
Interested in planting potatoes? Portland Ave Nursery is hosting a free workshop to answer questions on Saturday as well →
🏨 Bowling, mini golf, and a bar? Sold
Tower Lanes isn’t just a bowling alley—it’s an all-in-one fun zone. Whether you’re knocking down pins, sinking a hole-in-one on their indoor mini golf course, or dominating the arcade, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. And if your idea of winning involves a cold drink, their full-service bar has you covered.
Bowling starts at just $5 a game on weekdays before 4 PM, and glow bowling on Fridays and Saturdays turns the lanes into a neon party. Mini golf? It’s open every day, rain or shine, for just $12 a round ($8 for kids and seniors).
It’s a great excuse to leave the house on a rainy day →
🛎️ Tax season is upon us
Like it or not, tax season is here, and the longer you put it off, the more stressful it gets. Thankfully you don’t have to do it alone (unless you really want to).
McKinley Tax Service can help you tackle tax prep and bookkeeping without the headache. Whether your situation is more complicated, you don’t want to do it on your own, or just trying to make sure you get the best refund possible, Travis will walk you through the entire process until you feel 100% comfortable.
He’s built a reputation for personalized service and trusted advice so you can file with confidence instead of last-minute panic.
The deadline’s closer than you think and many CPAs stop accepting new patients around early March — might as well check this off your list now →
🏠 Is your roof ok?
Washington winters do a number on roofs (moss, moisture, snow, etc.), and spring is when all those hidden issues start showing up. If you haven’t had yours checked in a while or you see moss hanging around, now’s the time before a small problem turns into a torrential flood.
Guardian Roofing will take a look (with a 17-point inspection), let you know what’s up, and give you a no-nonsense plan for repairs if needed and keeping your roof in top shape.
This one’s easy to put off (or ignore all together… guilty as charged), so schedule it now while it’s top of mind →
